Sightseeing
Paulet Island is circular and measures about 1 mile (1.6 km) across. It lies 3 miles (4.8 km) south-east of Dundee Island, off the north-eastern end of the Antarctic Peninsula. Lava flows form the island and are topped by a cinder cone with a small summit crater. Geothermal warmth keeps some areas free of ice, and this heat suggests that the volcano was last active within the past 1,000 years. A British expedition led by James Clark Ross discovered Paulet Island during 1839-1843, and he named it for Captain the Right Honourable Lord George Paulet of the Royal Navy.
