Making the most of Cape Hallet
Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.
Arriving at the port
Ships cannot dock here, so inflatable Zodiac boats tender passengers ashore; helicopter landings are not allowed.
Sightseeing
Near the Ross Sea head, the huge Admiralty Range signals arrival at Cape Hallett. Wild, spectacular mountains rise directly from the sea to more than 4,000 meters, while giant glaciers flow from the interior to release their icy load. Landings are beside an abandoned American-New Zealand base, where many Adelie Penguins and Weddell Seals live.
