Arriving at the port
Ships cannot dock at Cape Adare, so inflatable Zodiac boats bring passengers ashore. Heavy surf and strong offshore winds generally make landings difficult.

Sightseeing
Cape Adare is approached through Robertson Bay. Its black, pebble-covered beach supports one of the Ross Sea's largest Adélie colonies. In breeding season, nearly a quarter of a million nesting pairs occupy the vast beach, while penguins porpoise among ice floes and cross currents travelling between the rookery and sea.
