Sightseeing
Livingston Island, in the South Shetland Islands off the Antarctic Peninsula, is one of Antarctica’s most popular stops. Its large chinstrap and gentoo rookeries sometimes include nesting macaroni penguins, alongside large flocks of skuas, southern giant petrels, sheath bills and nesting kemp gulls. In the early-19th-century, it was a major sealing center; English sealers took more than 95,000 fur seal skins from the western part of the island alone.
