Sightseeing

Argentina's present Esperanza Base was founded in 1952 and has a substantial Argentine Army presence, including a family "colony". Its installations have displaced part of a penguin rookery. Antarctica's first human birth took place here in 1978, when Emilio Palma was born to an Argentine naval officer's wife.
