Suva is the most visited cruise port in Fiji, with Lautoka in close second place and Dravuni in third place.

02

Sightseeing

Suva, the capital and principal port, sits on the southeast shores of mountainous Viti Levu ("Great Fiji"), largest of the over 800 islands which comprise the Republic of Fiji in the south Pacific Ocean. Local folk traditions remain strong, like fire walks and welcoming ceremonies, wood-carving and the fabrication of tree-bark cloth. The island's proud history is showcased in the Fiji Museum, with its impressive collection of war canoes.

Visit the Indian cultural center and see the fire walking and traditional dances.

03

Getting around

Tour vendors will be at the pier.

04

Food and shopping

Suva city is a popular shopping destination, especially the Victoria Parade area. Jewellery, cameras, high fidelity audio equipment, clothes, handicrafts, artifacts, souvenir items, and original artworks are among the many items on offer. Shopping hours are generally from 8.00a.m. to 7.00p.m. Sunday and public holiday trading is also permitted. When in Suva, don't miss the main Suva Market located near the bus station and the cruise port. Colorful and fascinating - meet the local Fijians who are always ready with a quick smile and a friendly explanation of what they are selling. Buy delicious tropical fruits in season, including pineapple…

A free shuttle bus from the ship runs to an upscale department store called Prouds. The distance is short, so walking there instead is a good alternative. There is a pharmacy located on floor 4.

Staying connected

English is an official language and is the language of instruction in education, and is spoken by most in Nadi, Suva and any other major tourist area. On a few of the less touristy islands, English may be spoken with some difficulty. Fijian or Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu) is spoken by most adults and children, and learning even a few key phrases will help you gain the respect of the locals.
