Making the most of Dravuni Island

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

As ships moor offshore at this port, passengers are tendered ashore.

The island is tiny, at about 2 square kilometers, with no downtown area. It can be easily covered on foot, and its village is the main place for visitor interaction.

About 200 Fijian natives live together in Dravuni’s small central village, where guests can experience island living. In the spectacular Kadavu group of islands, Dravuni usually has perfect weather day and night. Adventurous visitors can trek up the grassy slopes to its highest peak for a fantastic view of the ship and surrounding islands. Bring a camera!

Swimming and snorkeling are both good and very safe. The beach on the right of the pontoon, when coming ashore, is easy to reach.

02

Getting around

Local people offer boat trips around the island.

03

Money

Both Fijian dollar (FJD) and Australian dollars are accepted, excluding coin currency.

04

Staying connected

English is an official language, used for education and by most people in Nadi, Suva and other major tourist areas. On some less touristy islands it may be spoken with difficulty. Most adults and children speak Fijian or Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu), and learning a few key phrases can earn local respect.
