Making the most of Levuka

Arriving at the port
Arrive in the town centre, where many pre-colonial and post-colonial buildings remain. Levuka is considered the South Pacific’s most intact surviving example of colonial influence and lifestyle.
Levuka lies on Ovalau’s south-east coast in Fiji’s Lomaiviti Province, just off Viti Levu. Ovalau is a verdant volcanic island surrounded by large coral reefs. North of town is the traditional Fijian village of Levuka, whose chief directly descends from the chief who welcomed the first European settlers.
Getting around
Popular Lavuka activities include a historical town tour and a Silana day trip, 10km from Levuka.
Visit Lovoni in central Ovalau, a town set inside a crater.
Other options are Levuka Museum and Community center, water sports and trips to nearby islands.
Food and shopping
Ovalau Island’s only restaurants are in Levuka town or at Ovalau Holiday Resort, 4 km north. Villages may offer passing visitors food and drink; respect this Fijian custom and do not abuse it.

Fiji’s currency is the Fijian Dollar (FJD).
