Arriving at the port
As ships moor in this port, passengers are tendered ashore to disembark at centrally located Savusavu Copra Shed Marina.

Savusavu is a natural, lush, beautiful paradise set between green hills and deep-water Namaka Creek in the south-east of Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island. It feels as though time stopped thirty years ago. Its only main street is a busy hub, yet has every essential: quaint cafes and restaurants, banks, a post office and a fascinating, busy local open-air vegetable market.

Getting around
Independent operators offer scuba diving, sailing trips, sport fishing, cultural tours, snorkelling and kayaking. Tourism is developing quickly, bringing boutique resorts etc., but do not miss the famous Planters Club, still a centre of social activity today!
The geothermal hot springs site is particularly interesting: a short walk uphill behind Morris Hedstrom Supermarket, you can see pots of root crops steaming on the springs in the afternoons.

Staying connected
English is an official language, the language of instruction in education, and spoken by most people in Nadi, Suva and other major tourist areas. On some less touristy islands, it may be spoken with difficulty. Most adults and children speak Fijian or Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu), and learning even a few key phrases will help you earn local respect.
