01

Arriving at the port

As ships are moored in this port, you will be tendered ashore. Passengers are tendered to shore and disembark at the Savusavu Copra Shed Marina, which is centrally located.

Printable map to take along.

Nestled between green hills and deep water Namaka Creek in the south-east of Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest island, is Savusavu a natural, lush and beautiful paradise! It is as though time has stood still for thirty years. With only one main street, which is a hub of activity, it does have all the essentials including quaint cafes and restaurants, banks, a post office, and a fascinating busy local open-air vegetable market.

Be sure to check out the new Tourist Info Spot located at the Cafe Bula Re, opposite the Post Office for more information on local activities and attractions.

02

Getting around

Several independent operators offer scuba diving, sailing trips, sport fishing, cultural tours, snorkelling and kayaking. Tourism is fast developing so there are boutique resorts etc., but don't forget to visit the famous Planters Club still a center for social activity today!

Of special interest is the site of the geothermal hot springs, just a short walk up the hill behind the Morris Hedstrom Supermarket, where, in the afternoons, you can see pots of root crops steaming atop the springs.

03

Food and shopping

There's some nice restaurants at the marina that the tenders come into.

Staying connected

English is an official language and is the language of instruction in education, and is spoken by most in Nadi, Suva and any other major tourist area. On a few of the less touristy islands, English may be spoken with some difficulty. Fijian or Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu) is spoken by most adults and children, and learning even a few key phrases will help you gain the respect of the locals.
