Arriving at the port

Cruise vessels berth directly at Yatsushiro Port. Because this is an industrial port, shuttle buses are usually supplied for the journey into the town centre. Pier facilities are limited but organised for cruise arrivals.

Sightseeing

Yatsushiro lies on Kyushu island in southern Japan. Although modest and traditional, the town is mainly a gateway to historic castles, active volcanic landscapes, rural Japanese scenery and cultural festivals.

Visit Yatsushiro Shrine for traditional Shinto architecture, peaceful grounds and an insight into local customs. During an autumn visit, you may hear about the renowned Yatsushiro Myōken Festival.

A leading Kyushu attraction is Mount Aso, one of the world's largest volcanic calderas. Its dramatic scenery includes crater viewing platforms, conditions permitting, and scenic grasslands, making it a popular full or half-day excursion.

03

Nearby places

About an hour away, Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's most impressive feudal castles. Recently restored following earthquake damage, it has beautiful surrounding gardens and often features on cruise shore tours.
