Sightseeing

Overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, Tomonoura is a beautifully preserved port town in Hiroshima Prefecture. For centuries, ships waited here for favourable tides, making it an important maritime port. It is now known for Edo-period streets, traditional wooden houses, calm seaside views and its historical atmosphere.

Tomonoura Joyato, the harbour’s stone lighthouse, is its symbol. Built in 1859, it stands at the harbour centre and is a beautiful photo spot.

Visit Fukuzenji Temple for its stunning sea view, traditional architecture and Tatami viewing room. Its panorama over the Seto Inland Sea is often described as one of Japan’s most beautiful scenic views.

The compact harbour area is highly walkable.
