Arriving at the port
Cruise ships use the industrial port, about 5 km from town; take taxis or ship provided transportation.
Sundsvall combines magnificent natural beauty with a rich, clearly vibrant cultural and entertainment offering. Long boulevards and richly decorated neo-Renaissance buildings make its town center one of the country’s most beautiful. These were built when the town rose from the devastating 1888 fire that left 9,000 people homeless. Today, town planners and future architects regularly visit to study this listed town center.
Food and shopping
Sundsvall takes shopping seriously, earning the epithet "Norrland's shopping Mecca". With just over 200 stores, from personal exclusive boutiques to major chains, galleries and department stores, serious shoppers may struggle most with deciding what to buy. The choice is vast, with perhaps a slight focus on interiors and fashion.
