Making the most of Nynashamn

01

Arriving at the port

Nynashamn is an anchor port and an alternative gateway for Stockholm: easier for a ship to reach, but much farther from Stockholm for passengers. Its 260 metre-long SeaWalk is an extendible and retractable floating pier that can connect directly to the cruise vessel, allowing passengers to step straight onto dry land.

A shuttle bus operates in both the morning and afternoon. Tickets cost 40 SEK and are sold at the Tourist Information Office beside the cruise pier. Walking takes about 10-15 minutes by following the blue pavement line.

This destination is enormously popular with Swedes of all ages during summer. The Polferries terminal also runs regular services to Gdansk in Poland. Several cruise vessels touring the Baltic Sea stay in the harbour because they are too large to enter Stockholm.

In summer, boats of every size pack the harbour, which bustles with residents and visitors. Eateries and boutiques offer locally made produce. The main town is largely modern, and its buildings are generally uninteresting.

02

Getting around

A cottage at the dock will be staffed by the tourist information office. Its team can supply visitor information and maps showing the walk to the railway station, which takes about 10-20 minutes.

A morning and afternoon shuttle also works as a hop-on hop-off bus, with tickets available beside the bus or from the cottage. Shuttle = SEK 40, while Hop on/off = SEK 100.

03

Nearby places

For Stockholm, the train from Nynäshamn station takes about 1 h and 6 minutes. Services usually run every half-hour: From Nynäshamn at 20 and 50 minutes past each hour, and From Stockholm Central station at 4 and 34 minutes past each hour.

04

Money

Sweden's currency is the Swedish krona, SEK, with the plural kronor. Approximate rates are 1 USD to 5.91 SEK, 1 EUR to 9.43 SEK and 1 GBP to 12.28 SEK.

Automatic teller machines accept major credit cards, while most shops, bars and restaurants accept all major credit cards. In some cases, a SEK 5 charge or a minimum spend between 50 - 100 SEK applies.

05

Staying connected

Swedish is Sweden's national language, but people—especially those younger than 70—also speak English extremely well. An estimated 89% of Swedes can speak it.

In the event of a fire, medical emergency or crime, the telephone number to call is 112.

Visitors can use a free Wi-Fi zone in the Fishing Harbour. The necessary access code is available from staff at the Tourist Centre.
