01

Arriving at the port

Town centre can be reached on foot from the dock.

Bring a printable map.

Norrköping stands where the Motalaström flows into Bråvik, a Baltic inlet running inland for about 50km/30mi. Bråvik creates a natural divide between forested Kolmård to the north and the fertile farmland of Vikboland to the south. Norrköping is a busy industrial town for metalworking and textiles, and an important port.

  • Arbetets museum, the museum of work, has free entrance and is worth visiting. The surrounding Industrilandskapet/Strykjärnet district includes a concert hall, science park, tourist centre, church, other museums, art school, university-owned space and an attractive waterfall.
  • Norrköpings konstmuseum, Norrköping's art museum on Kristinaplatsen, has an extensive collection of 20th century modern art and contemporary works, with free entrance.
  • Karl Johans park, close to the railway station, has a cactus display of over 25,000 cacti.
02

Getting around

The yellow trams are a pleasant way to move around Norrköping. Buy tickets or cards before boarding from a kiosk, supermarket or similar, since onboard prices are twice as high. Paying by SMS avoids the 50% cash surcharge on tram or bus.

03

Food and shopping

Drottninggatan and the streets around it have many shops. The Linden, Domino and Spiralen shopping malls on Drottninggatan are especially worth noting.

04

Money

The Swedish krona is the national currency, written SEK, or kronor in the plural. Approximate rates are 1 USD to 5.91 SEK, 1 EUR to 9.43 SEK and 1 GBP to 12.28 SEK.

Automatic teller machines accept major credit cards. Most shops, restaurants and bars take all major cards, though a SEK 5 charge or a minimum purchase between 50 - 100 SEK may sometimes apply.

05

Staying connected

Swedish is Sweden's national language, but English is spoken very well by people, especially those below the age of 70; an estimated 89% of Swedes use it.

For a fire, medical or criminal emergency, dial 112 without delay.

06

Opening Hours and

Most shops, at least in the centre, open throughout the week, including Sundays.
