Arriving at the port
Marstrand is a small historic island port in Sweden's west-coast Bohuslän archipelago. It is known for yachts, sailing and scenery rather than large terminals, although luxury and smaller cruise ships do visit.
Because of the small town and marina-focused facilities, vessels often anchor near the harbour and bring passengers ashore by tender rather than using major cruise terminals.
Sightseeing
Carlsten Fortress stands atop Marstrand Island. For more than 300 years, this powerful guardian has protected the wooden town below and now makes a memorable visit.
Getting around
Walk around town, about 500 m by 500 m, and the island, roughly 1500 m by 750 m.
Enjoy island and coastline views from Carstens Fort, then explore the appealing wooden houses, shops and hotels along the harbour front.
