Arriving at the port
Cruise ships berth close to the town centre. The international passenger terminal, funded by an investment of 556.9 billion won, was completed in 2019.

Incheon is a major Korean West Sea port around an hour from Seoul. Its indented coastline, islets and mountainous inland landscape make it a popular city escape. Although it has the International Airport, it remains a charming place surrounded by rice fields that produce renowned flavoursome Incheon rice. For an independent trip, take a cab from port to East Incheon subway station on the Red line. The journey into central Seoul takes an hour and 20 minutes.
Transfer to the Blue line for Samgkachi Station and the large Korean War museum, or leave at Chungmuro Station to visit Hanok Folk Village, which recreates 19th-century Korean homes and customs.
Kyongbok Palace and the National Museum can be reached from Kwanghwamun Station on the Orange line.
Money
South Korea’s currency is the won, with 1 US$= approx 1000 won.
ATMs are common, although ordinary Korean ATMs generally reject foreign cards; use a Global ATM instead. These are available at airports, certain subway stations in major cities and many Family Mart convenience stores, so obtain cash before the countryside. Cards are accepted very widely, with Visa and Mastercard taken by all except the lowest-cost restaurants and motels.
Staying connected
Korean is the local language. Younger people often speak English fairly well and are happy to practise with english-speaking tourists.
