Arriving at the port
First-ever private island in the Bahamas used for cruise passengers, owned by NCL since 1977.
The marina is approximately 12 feet deep at low water and is home to the island's four tenders. Great Stirrup Cay offers magnificent white sand beaches, majestic palms and calm, pristine waters where an abundance of colorful marine life inhabits the surrounding coral reefs.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced a new pier development at the company’s private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, is slated to break ground in summer 2024 and be completed by late 2025 with an investment of approximately $150 million.
The new pier will be constructed to simultaneously accommodate two large vessels of the company’s current and future ship classes, according to an announcement
Several new island activities have been added since the project began including more than 16 wave runners, kayak rentals and an eco-adventure boat tour around the island. These are in addition to the existing snorkeling; floats; inflatable hippo slide; and parasailing.
The dining facility includes a central pizza making station, two grills, hot and cold food stations, as well as fresh fruits and breads. There are two full bars on either side of the facility for added convenience. The four pavilions, each more than 1800 square feet, offer picnic tables with a total seating capacity for more than 500 guests.
A $400 million upgrade has taken place, including a new zip line including 1,000 feet of line, a new half-mile oceanside boardwalk that will span the length of the shore, with more than 100,000 feet of pathway, and enhanced and expanded dining options and a new atmosphere.
