Arriving at the port
Cruise vessels berth at this new harbour, with additional docks planned or already under construction.
Numerous port activities are complimentary, including a lazy river, pool loungers and hammocks. The ferris wheel and certain further attractions are also free, although reports suggest Baby Beach and its loungers carry a charge.
Cabo Rojo replaces the polished resorts, crowded promenades and urban centres of other Caribbean calls with the unspoilt scenery of Pedernales Province. Near Haiti’s border in the Dominican Republic’s southwestern corner, this area is particularly rewarding for nature lovers. Its undeveloped coast contains beaches, lagoons and mangrove woods, while mountains and hidden caves draw visitors inland. Hiking, snorkelling, kayaking, birdwatching and sunbathing all provide ways to enjoy the landscape.
Getting around
Playa de Boquerón, or Boquerón Beach, is a principal Cabo Rojo attraction. Clear water and unspoilt white sand suit swimming, sunbathing and beachcombing, while neighbouring mangroves provide opportunities to see varied birdlife.
Laguna de Cabo Rojo is a coastal lagoon rich in wildlife and especially appealing to birdwatchers. Flamingos, herons, pelicans and many other species inhabit the area. Join a guided boat trip or follow the surrounding paths for closer views.
El Faro, the historic Cabo Rojo Lighthouse, occupies cliffs above the sea. Visitors can explore the lighthouse and take in extensive ocean panoramas, particularly around sunset.
