Arriving at the port

Fire almost entirely destroyed Trois Rivieres in 1908, leaving little of its historic origins. Nevertheless, cafés, bars, artists' studios and museums make the city an excellent place to visit. Promenade de la Poésie is a delightful walk marked by more than 300 panels of love poetry. In contrast, the new Boréalis museum explores Canada's pulp and paper industry inside the former filtration plant of what was once the world's largest paper mill. Getting around
Trois-Rivières' principal sight is the old city, or vieille-ville, beside the river around rue des Ursulines. Far smaller than the old quarters of Montreal or Quebec, it has a low-key picturesque character and is worth a walk.
