Making the most of Baie Comeau

Arriving at the port
You will be docked near the ferry and cruise terminal of Baie Comeau.
It is some distance into the city, perhaps 2 km into the city center. School busses are used to provide a shuttle into town (5 USD) as well as some shore excursions.
There is public transportation, but it stops on the main road, not at the ferry terminal, and it only operates once hourly, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no Sunday service).
This unattractive city with a population of 21,500, owes its existence to Robert McCormick, former owner of the Chicago Tribune, who, in 1936, decided to build a colossal pulp and paper factory here.

The Baie-Comeau region's landscape has been shaped by glacial retreats and extraordinary and unusual natural phenomena such as a meteorite, which caused the immense Manicouagan crater.
Getting around
Stroll the lovely quartier Sainte-Amélie. Learn about regional wildlife at the Maison de la Faune. Or visit the new Centré Boréal, a fascinating Glacier Center where visitors can walk through a man-made glacier, experiencing its temperature, sound and movement.
Food and shopping
Just a few minutes from the port, you will be warmly welcomed by the local population in a thriving and vast natural setting. Browse at the many boutiques where you will be sure to find the perfect souvenir.
