Tioman Island Malaysia
Off peninsular Malaysia’s east coast in Pahang state, Tioman Island is a beautiful tropical island known for coral reefs, dive sites and a relaxed atmosphere. Unlike Singapore, Phuket or Penang, it is not a major commercial cruise-ship destination. Large international liners generally cannot dock directly; when itineraries include Tioman, passengers may transfer by tender (a smaller boat) or arrive on organized shore excursions.

Sightseeing
Time magazine chose Tioman among the world’s most beautiful islands. Still sparsely inhabited, this densely forested island is encircled by numerous white coral reefs, creating a haven for regional scuba divers.
Getting around
Juara Turtle Project, about 30 min crossing to tetek on foot, is open to daytime visitors and offers volunteer and group programs. Privately funded and operated, it covers sea turtle conservation, sustainable living and habitat protection. A 1-2 hr visit explains more about how sea turtles live and how to preserve them; depending on the current situation, you may see eggs or injured turtles. The entrance fee is a minimum RM10 donation.
Money
Malaysia uses the ringgit as its currency.
