Making the most of Tinian

01

Arriving at the port

Town is within walking distance of the dock.

Among Tinian’s great beaches is beautiful, white-sand Taga Beach, visited by local people on Sunday.

Visit Taga House and its 12 mammoth stones in San Jose, the island’s small (and only) town; such stones traditionally supported Chamorro structures.

Beyond town, Taga Stone Quarry contains giant stones cut but never removed from the ground. You can cover all the island sights while fitting in swimming and gambling.

Airstrips used by the US military in World War II are Tinian’s principal attractions. At the island’s northern end, a monument marks where the Enola Gay bomber departed for Hiroshima carrying the first atomic bomb.

The Mariana Islands’ only remaining Shinto shrine is on Tinian, an artifact of Japanese colonization.
