Tema is a very young harbor town (build in the sixties) and as such has not many points of interest.

Ghana is a very friendly country, ideal for first time travelers to Africa, the people are generally very helpful and welcoming. While their laid back attitude and lack of organized tourist sights/trips can be a little annoying to begin with, before you have been there for very long you realise that it is one of the delights of this country.

Tourism in Ghana is growing very quickly, and more tour operators are seeing increased requests for Ghana as a travel destination.

Ghana is also rich in Gold. Their people have a very rich culture and they have a very stable country with great potential for growth.

To flag a taxi wave your arm with your finger pointed down to the ground. On a busy street you will have many taxis driving past trying to offer you their service. There are no meters on Ghanaian taxis. You must negotiate how much you are willing to pay before you start the trip. Try to ask someone local how much a trip to a certain location usually costs.

Taxis are generally easy to identify. The two front side panels and the two real side panels are normally painted a different colour from the rest of the vehicle.

That said, the most important way of recognizing taxis are by the number plates--they, like many commercial vehicles, always have a yellow background, with black lettering, as compared to the private vehicles that have white background, with black lettering.

Metered Taxi

There are some taxis with meters in them. They are generally more expensive, but you can be a little more sure about how much they will cost.

Find a souvenr at Makola Market, a picturesque open market or visit Accra Handicraft Market, the largest market for handicraft products in the country, including traditional musical instruments, cane and raffia products, jewelry and more.

Cedi = 100 pesewas. Notes are in denominations of 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000. Coins are in denominations of 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 and 500, 200, 100 and 50 pesewas.

The official language is English. Local Ghanaian languages are widely spoken, including Akan, Moshi-Dagomba, Ewe and Ga.

Internet facilities can be found throughout the country in most towns but connection is usually very slow (56K). Hotels have faster access. Internet popularity is rapidly growing and service is improving to keep up with demand.
