Arriving at the port

This is a tender port. The tender jetty is right in town.

Printable map to take along.

It’s a small island which can be circumnavigated in a couple of hours with a speed-boat, or more leisurely in 4 to 5 hours by local caique or sail. The environment is incredibly varied and can range from hidden, wooded valleys to Monasteries set against a backdrop of barren rock, from shallow beaches with pastures behind to plunging cliffs with beaches nestling below them, only accessible by boat. There are several offshore islands which are worth visiting and where you will find beaches with less people on them than the main island ones.

At the eastern end of the island is Skiathos Town, surrounding a well sheltered harbor which fills in the summer with every type of vessel from 3 meter fishing boats to 11 meter yachts to 40 meter motor yachts. In Skiathos Town you can find everything. It is a thriving, cosmopolitan center that hums with energy during the summer months contrasting nicely with the lazy beach days.

Explore the charming streets of Skiathos Town, filled with whitewashed buildings, narrow alleyways, and vibrant bougainvillea. Enjoy shopping in boutique stores, dining at local tavernas, and relaxing in cafes.

02

Getting around

Skiathos offers tourists a variety of transport options – from motorbike and car rentals to buses and taxis. Many tourists opt to use the local bus service, which is both economical and efficient. It travels the full length of the southern coastal road from Koukounaries, terminating in Skiathos Town. Buses run at 15 to 20 minute intervals in the summer, and can often be crowded (particularly between 4:00pm – 7:00pm) coming back in to town.

Monastery of Evangelistria. Visit this historic monastery located in the hills above Skiathos Town. It offers beautiful views, a peaceful atmosphere, and a small museum detailing its history and significance.
