Making the most of Skiathos

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Skiathos is a tender port, and its tender jetty stands directly in town.

This small island can be circumnavigated in a couple of hours by speed-boat, or more gently in 4 to 5 hours aboard a local caique or sailing boat. Its remarkably varied landscape ranges from hidden wooded valleys to monasteries backed by barren rock, and from shallow beaches bordered by pasture to beaches beneath plunging cliffs that are accessible only by boat. Several offshore islands are worth visiting and have beaches with fewer people than those on the main island.

Skiathos Town surrounds a well-sheltered harbour at the island's eastern end. During summer it fills with every kind of craft, from 3 metre fishing boats and 11 metre yachts to 40 metre motor yachts. Skiathos Town has everything: it is a thriving cosmopolitan centre, alive with summer energy that contrasts pleasantly with lazy beach days.

Discover Skiathos Town's charming streets, whitewashed buildings, narrow lanes and vivid bougainvillea. Browse boutique shops, eat in local tavernas and relax at cafés.

02

Getting around

Skiathos gives visitors several transport choices, from motorcycle and car hire to buses and taxis. Many choose the economical, efficient local bus, which follows the entire southern coast road from Koukounaries and terminates in Skiathos Town. Summer services run every 15 to 20 minutes and can often be crowded, especially between 4:00pm – 7:00pm on the return into town.

Monastery of Evangelistria: visit this historic monastery in the hills above Skiathos Town. It combines lovely views and a calm atmosphere with a small museum explaining its history and significance.
