Making the most of Silhouette

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Cruise vessels cannot dock here, so tender boats carry passengers ashore.

Although Silhouette is the third-largest of the granite Seychelles islands by area, it has a population of just 130. Despite its proximity to Mahé, coral reefs made landing difficult and kept visitor numbers low until recently.

Unlike neighbouring islands, Silhouette is volcanic in origin and takes its name from an 18th Century French dignitary. The famous privateer Hodoul once lived here and is generally believed to have buried treasure on the island.

Untouched by modern development, this rare gem makes an ideal escape for every nature lover. Silhouette has neither roads nor paths and can be reached only by boat or helicopter. Its highest point is Mount Dauban (740m), surrounded by a largely unexplored rainforest rich in botanical treasures, including the rare pitcher-plant, orchids, rare hardwoods and the incense tree found only on Silhouette. A vast coral reef completely encircles the island, while crystal-clear water is ideal for diving, snorkelling, swimming and fishing.
