Making the most of Desroches

Arriving at the port
Cruise ships cannot dock at Desroches, so tenders take passengers ashore straight onto the beach.
This coral island rises from a submerged atoll of the same name in the Amirantes group, 120 nautical miles southwest of Mahe. Desroches rises 3,000 meters from clear blue sea, with abundant fish life and about 50 nautical miles of surrounding reef. It has a coconut plantation and small agricultural settlement, and weather similar to the rest of Seychelles: sunny year round with occasional warm showers.
Swim or snorkel in the warm, clear water, and walk the long beach. Sun protection is essential both in and out of the water. Snorkellers may wish to wear plastic shoes against coral and a T-shirt against sunburn. There are no tourist facilities on the island.
Money
The Seychelles rupee (SCR) is the islands’ currency. ATM machines;usually offer the best conversion rates, while airports and banks;also provide convenient exchanges. 1 Euro= 8 rupees.
