Arriving at the port
Ships anchor offshore opposite Rab's medieval centre, with tenders bringing passengers into the middle of town. Massive fortifications dominate the waterfront only a few metres from the tender and catamaran landing.
Rab is both an island and a town of the same name, just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea, within today's Primorje-Gorski Kotar county. Most of the island's north-eastern side is barren, while its south-western side contains one of the Mediterranean's last oak forests.
Getting around
Rab has a wealth of cultural heritage and historic monuments. Medieval walls remain today, alongside ancient churches, palaces and stone streets that testify to the island's long history and enduring tradition of beauty.
Discover fragrant woodland, freshwater springs and the imposing 13th-century Romanesque Cathedral. Rab is also home to Komrcar Park, where dozens of rare and attractive trees grow.
Several excursion boats line the waterfront. An inexpensive "taxi boat" can also carry visitors to FKK Frkanj or the naturist beach at Kandarola outside town.
