The island of Sifnos is in the Western part of the Cyclades, situated between the islands of Serifos and Milos. Sifnos is just 74 km2 (29 sq. mi) big and in 2001 it had a population of 2.442, with the majority living in the capital of the island, Apollonia.

Platis Gialos, the cosmopolitan coast of Sifnos. The name of the place comes from the local speaking phrase "Wide Seashore" and it means a seashore that has relatively big width, a spacious beach. It is one of the busiest beaches of Sifnos and it is considered one of the biggest beaches of Cyclades.

Getting around

Platis Gialos has big archaeological interest. In the northeastern part of the beach are the remains of the White Tower. It is the most known from the 57 ancient towers in the island.In the south part, in location Akrotiri excavations brought into light a prehistoric cemetery.In the north part of the beach, on the top of the hill is built the monastery of Panagia Vounou dated from 1813. The view from up there is magic.

Public Services: open Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 2.00pm. Retail Stores & Specialty Shops: Monday to Friday, 9am – 1.30pm and then again from 5pm – 9pm. Saturdays, 9am – 2pm. Supermarkets: Monday to Friday, 9am – 9pm, and Saturdays, 9am – 6pm. Tourist Shops and Convenience Stores: most of these do not have official opening hours and are usually open from dawn to well after midnight during the summer months.
