Pio XI Glacier, in Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, is another essential sight in the region. Covering 1265 squared kilometres, it is as large as Santiago and grows by 50 metres in height, length and density each day. That behaviour is unique: every other glacier in Patagonia and most elsewhere in the world is losing extension, while Pio XI continues growing every day. As South America's largest glacier, Pio XI provides a unique landscape view, whether seen from a boat or while standing on it when weather permits.
