Making the most of Norman Island

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Norman Island is uninhabited and privately owned by Dr Henry Jarecki. It covers about 600 acres (2.4 km²) and measures about 2.5 miles (4 km) long. The large harbour called The Bight is one of the area's best protected anchorages, and this is a tender port.

Legend is central to Norman Island's story, with pirates and treasure-cave tales. Its possible role as the model for Robert Louis Stevenson's epic Treasure Island is perhaps the best-known legend. Though uninhabited now, the island once supported cattle farmers, and today its Caves are among the islands' most popular visitor attractions.

02

Getting around

The Bight anchorage has more than 100 guest moorings and sits near internationally known SCUBA and snorkel sites, including the Caves and the Indians. The 610-acre privately owned, uninhabited island also has numerous walking trails and breath-taking white-sand beaches.

03

Food and shopping

Several favourite watering holes, much loved by visiting-yacht crews, are places where local gossip flows as freely as the rum.

04

Money

The currency is the United States Dollar (USD).
