01

Arriving at the port

Setting Point is the town's harbour, frequented by sailing boats and occasional cruise ships; passengers from the latter are brought ashore by tender.

Unlike the volcanic British Virgin Islands, Anegada is the only inhabited member of the group formed from limestone and coral. The other islands are mountainous, but Anegada is both flat and low, reaching just 28 feet (8.5 m) at its highest point. Its name accordingly translates as “the drowned land.”

Check the Roadtown cruise timetable.

See the BVI cruise schedule and whether your ship will be at anchor.

Low and level, Anegada rises to no more than 28 feet (8.5 m) above the sea. The name comes from the Spanish "tierra anegada", meaning flooded land.

About 200 of Anegada's residents live in its principal town, The Settlement. Alongside the Government Administration Building, police building, post office, small medical clinic and library, the town has a handful of restaurants, the "Ocean Range Hotel", "Dotsy's Bakery" and several small shops.

Miles of flats along the southern shore support a large bonefish population, which has made Anegada a favoured fly-fishing destination.

Reefs almost completely encircle the island, whose coastline includes miles of attractive sandy beaches.

02

Getting around

Anegada's isolation is central to its appeal. Most people visit simply to unwind, passing their days on the beautiful yet comparatively empty beaches of the north shore.
