Nisos Megisti—officially Megísti in Greek—is the island's formal name, although internationally both the port and island are better known as Kastellorizo.
The island is very small, at around ~12 km², and has fewer than 600 inhabitants, giving it a quiet, intimate character compared with larger cruise destinations.
