Making the most of Mljet

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

Untamed Mljet is among Croatia's finest islands and suits anyone wanting to escape everyday life. A national park occupies its north-western third, containing two inland lakes and miles of routes for cycling and walking. The island has few inhabitants, no sizeable towns and a single principal road running north-south among pines, oaks and macchia. It is the Adriatic's most densely forested island. Off the Peljesac peninsula, Mljet is an easy summer day trip from Dubrovnik when ferries run frequently, and remains accessible for overnight stays throughout the year.

Most ships visiting Mljet call near Sobra, the principal port settlement on the central-northern coast. As the administrative centre, it has a fishing harbour and ferry connections with mainland Croatia, including Dubrovnik. Cruise vessels generally anchor offshore and tender passengers to land rather than using a large modern terminal.

02

Getting around

Entry to Mljet National Park costs €20 per person. A travel-agency excursion may not include this charge, so confirm before booking. Admission covers the Mali Most - Pristaniste - Sveta Marija boat round trip on solar-powered vessels, which depart roughly every half hour from any point.
