Making the most of Mayreau
Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.
Arriving at the port
Because cruise ships cannot dock here, passengers are brought ashore by tender.
Take a printable map along.
Mayreau lies 7 miles south of Canouan and has only around 200 people in its single village, on the island's highest hill. The Grenadines view from the church atop Station Hill is spectacular.
Nearby places
Beach lovers will be at home here. North Mayreau's Salt Whistle Bay is a perfect half-moon beach, separated from the Caribbean side by a palm-fringed sand spit only 50 yards wide. The windward coast is one long deserted beach for picnics, sunbathing and snorkelling around Mayreau Garden. On the calmer south-western leeward side, Saline Bay has nearly a mile of white sand and clear water.
Money
On Mayreau, the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$) is the currency of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
