Arriving at the port
Canouan is a St Vincent Grenadines island measuring just 3.5 miles by 1.25 miles. Ships anchor here and transfer passengers ashore by tender.
Canouan Island is ringed by small bays and coves, mostly with sweeping white-sand beaches. They are pristine, although a few are difficult to reach. Coral reef along the Atlantic side partly encloses the island and protects many beaches. Fine white sand contrasts dramatically with luxuriant vegetation and the tropical sea for those seeking a solitary experience of nature.
Midway down the Grenadines chain, this tiny boot-shaped island is 3½ miles (5½ km) long and 1¼ miles (2 km) wide, with a population of only around 1,200.
Getting around
From the port, narrow winding old-town streets lead to sunny, palm-lined plazas. Visit Catedral Nueva, or New Cathedral, begun in the early 1800s and completed only after 116 years; its golden dome stands above a striking interior.
