01

Arriving at the port

The primary port for cruise ships in Kythnos is the Port of Merichas, located on the western coast of the island. This is the main harbor for ferries and cruise ships visiting the island.

Merichas is a small port town itself, so the downtown area of Merichas is within walking distance from where the cruise ships dock. For those looking to explore beyond Merichas, the island's capital, Chora (also known as Messaria), is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) away. You can reach Chora by taxi, bus, or rental vehicle.

Try traditional Greek dishes at local tavernas, such as fresh seafood, local cheeses, and the island's specialty, sfougato (a type of omelette).

The clear waters around Kythnos are ideal for diving and snorkeling. You can explore underwater caves, shipwrecks, and vibrant marine life.

02

Getting around

Taxis: Readily available at the port and can take you to various parts of the island.

Buses: There are local bus services that connect Merichas with Chora and other major areas on the island.

03

Nearby places

Explore Chora (Messaria): Stroll through the narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses, traditional shops, and charming cafes. Visit the Church of Panagia Nikous, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Kythnos is known for its natural thermal springs, especially those in Loutra. The hot springs here are reputed to have therapeutic properties.

Located on the northern part of the island, this ancient castle offers historical insights and panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.
