Arriving at the port
Recently completed, the New Port of Igoumenitsa can handle a wide range of harbour services. The Port Authority prioritises attracting cruise vessels to Epirus and developing Igoumenitsa into one of the Mediterranean's principal cruise ports. Its cruise terminal stands close to town.
Igoumenitsa is the capital of the Thesprotia regional unit and was originally known in antiquity as Titani.
Excellent beaches lie within and around the city, and summer brings busy waterfront activity and passing visitors. Unlike many sea-transport centres, trucks and other ferry traffic avoid flooding the streets because the harbour exits directly onto Egnatia Highway. Cruise lines benefit from being able to dispatch long tours quickly without delays from crossing the city. Nearby places
This Peloponnese city has a range of ancient sites nearby. Cassopea, a Greek city, dates from the 4th century BCE. Beside modern Preveza are the remains of Nikopolis, established by Roman Octavian to honour his naval victory over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE. Close by, an oracular site on the River Acheron was once believed to guide souls into the Underworld. Farther away, Meteora's striking "monasteries in the sky" rise on immense rock towers above the Plain of Thessaly and rank among Greece's most memorable sights.
Parga is a colourful historic coastal village long admired for steep lanes and rocky headlands. Pirate Barbarrosa and later the Ottomans destroyed Parga Castle before the Venetians erected the present building. A short distance southeast is the Oracle of the Dead, a temple to Hades where ancient Greeks sought answers from deceased people.

Cruise visitors who do not take a tour will find numerous cafés, bars, shops and restaurants within a short walk of the dock.

Public Services operate Monday to Friday between 8.00am – 2.00pm. Retail Stores & Specialty Shops open Monday to Friday from 9am – 1.30pm and 5pm – 9pm, then Saturdays from 9am – 2pm. Supermarkets trade Monday to Friday from 9am – 9pm and Saturdays from 9am – 6pm. Tourist Shops and Convenience Stores generally have no set hours and often remain open from dawn until well after midnight in summer.
