Arriving at the port

Bar, as a cruise port, only started in 2016.
Montenegro is a country with deep blue sea, crystal clear rivers, mountains that reach the sky, dense forests, and beautiful lakes. It is bordered on the southeast by Albania. On the south, it is separated from Italy by the Adriatic Sea. Its western neighbors are the former Yugoslav republics of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although there are some nice stony beaches in Bar itself, many tourists choose destinations in other small towns in the Bar municipality, notably Sutomore, with its beautiful long sandy beach. The natural area around Bar is mostly untouched and is rich in vegetation.
The Old Olive of Mirovica is said to be one of the oldest olive trees in Europe and one of the oldest trees in the world. In 1957, it was placed under state protection. Numerous legends and traditions are associated with the tree. For instance, families that had a dispute would come to the tree to make peace. This explains its name, Mirovica, mir meaning peace.
Although it is a port town, it is amazingly clean and has many developed green areas. Around it there are many tourist attractions. The old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remnants from the 15 th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola, represent the historic and cultural monuments of this town
Getting around
During the summer months there is a local bus service running between Sutomare (about 5km north along the coast) and Bar. Services are hourly. Bar is a small city and everywhere is walkable. The walk between Bar and the beaches in Susanj will take about 30 minutes or taxi drivers will be happy to take you.
The closest station to the port is one in Jovana Tomaševića street. You will walk from the port by taking Vladimira Rolovića street until the crossing with Jovana Tomaševića street. This is about 500 meters. From here, turn on the right and walk for some 130 meters and you will be at the station. The buses frequency ranges from about 45 to 60 minutes and they operate from the morning until late night. Be wary that many signs will inform you buses come every 15 minutes but this is not the case. The Rome2Rio site may help with pricing and times.

Food and shopping
Shopping in Bar offers endless possibilities. The town's shopping area is within walking distance of the pier with stores and souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. Some shops close for the obligatory lunchtime between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Tourist-oriented shops usually stay open throughout the day.
There is an open market just outside the old town, there you can buy almost anything from fresh vegetables to sunglasses.
Money
The local currency is the euro. Montenegro however is not part of Euro Zone, in fact not even part of the EU. Smart thinking of the government!
