Nearby places

Middelburg is in the capital of Zeeland. It is an old city and the center has a small canal ringing about half of it. This is lined with boats and cycleways and is very nice to see and also quite Dutch looking. The center is dominated by a large square where markets are often held overlooked by a large townhall. Around this is the shopping area, most of which is pedestrianized.

Goes is situated in the middle of the province of Zeeland. It's part of an area called Zuid-Beveland. Traditionally, the farmers, townspeople and country folk of Zuid-Beveland would come to Goes to do their shopping and if you’re in Goes on market day (Tuesdays), you’ll see that they still do.

04

Food and shopping

In most cities and villages in Zeeland Sunday as a day of rest is strictly adhered to and no shop will be opened.

In terms of food there is nothing more typical of Zeeland than eating mussels.
