Arriving at the port

The tender dock is within walking distance of town, and its journey is only some 200 metres from the pier.

Ullapool Harbour's tender landing is conveniently placed a very short walk from downtown. Reaching the heart of Ullapool from the harbour typically takes only a few minutes on foot.

Ullapool is packed with craft and souvenir shops, guest houses and hotels. During summer it bustles all day as people leave the Stornoway ferry from Lewis or await the next one. The current population is about 1300.

Ullapool Museum, inside the old church on West Argyle Street, received the 1996 Scottish Museum of the Year award. Restored in 1995, the church now contains an audio-visual presentation on local people and places, with commentary in several languages. Touch-screens and audio-phones stand around the museum, while video lets anyone unable to climb stairs see the gallery displays. The surrounding district provides a distinctive variety of breathtaking excursions. Gruinard Bay, Inverewe Botanical Gardens, Falls of Measach, Knockan Crag Geopark, Castle Leod, Loch Ness, Castle Urquhart, Coigach & Assynt Mountains and Leckmelm Arboreteum are all readily accessible.
