Sightseeing information:
Just south of Juneau, Tracy Arm is a magnificent fjord carved by glaciers. Many cruise itineraries visit this incredible place, often replacing a comparable call at Glacier Bay National Park.
Part of the Tracy Arm - Fords Terror Wilderness region, the fjord is 30 mile long and lies about 60 miles southwest of Juneau.
Tracy Arm is among the world’s most dramatic locations, including in the USA. Mist often shrouds its sheer glacier-carved walls. Calving can be spectacular as huge ice chunks break free and plunge into the frigid water; many are larger than several buses combined, making the sight simply jaw-dropping.
Hundreds of waterfalls literally pour down the fjord’s sides, producing an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Naturalist John Muir compared the area’s sheer, glacial-carved granite cliffs with Yosemite’s and said this region was even more spectacular than the better-known Yosemite valley.
A Tracy Arm Fjord visit will certainly leave you impressed and awed by the place’s scale and beauty.
