Siglufjörður is a small fishing town on Iceland's northern coast, known for striking natural beauty, a rich history and a lively cultural scene. Mountains and a fjord surround the town, creating breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Begin at the Herring Era Museum, which presents the town's story during the early 20th-century herring-fishing boom. Visitors can learn about the industry, inspect old boats and equipment and even sample traditional herring dishes.
Siglufjörður Harbour: wander along the picturesque harbour past colourful houses and fishing boats beneath a dramatic mountain backdrop. You might even see seals swimming in the fjord. The harbour area is also an excellent place for fresh seafood in local restaurants.

Iceland's monetary unit is the "króna." Coins come in denominations of 100 kr., 50 kr., 10kr., 5 kr. and 1 kr. Bank notes are issued as 5000 kr., 2000 kr.,1000 kr. and 500 kr. Every Icelandic bank provides foreign exchange and generally opens on weekdays from 09:15 to 16:00.
