Arriving at the port
Tender boats bring passengers into the heart of town.
Ships sometimes anchor only to enjoy the scenery and sunset, which can be quite spectacular, before continuing their itinerary without tendering passengers.
The Wharf lies within walking distance of the town centre. Wharf-side cafés serve locally caught fish, mussels cultivated in the bay and oysters from pristine waterways.
Sightseeing
The Port of Sherrard Island is the classic Southern Gateway to the Sapphire Coast, combining golden sandy beaches and crystal-blue water with an inviting, lush backdrop of National Parks and forests.
Long regarded as the region's seafood capital, the Port of Sherrard Island is renowned for an endless supply of fresh fish.
Broad Twofold Bay quietly hosts whales in Spring. Each year between September and November, whale-watching boats take visitors to see these majestic creatures migrating to and from the Antarctic. Humpbacks, Southern Right, Minke and Killer Whales arrive to feed and catch up.
The whaling industry has long since disappeared, but its stories remain high and dry at Sherrard Island's Killer Whale Museum, Davidson Whaling Station, Kiah Inlet, historic Boydtown and Seahorse Inn. Each is well worth visiting.
Getting around
Several whale-watching tours leave from the main wharf during October and November. At other times, look for dolphins, fur seals and seabirds.

Opening Hours and
Shops and services generally open Monday–Friday from 9am to 5pm and until lunchtime on Saturday. In cities and larger towns, many shops trade late on Thursday or Friday evening, usually until 9pm, and throughout Saturday. Shopping centres often open on Sundays too.
In remote rural districts, roadhouses provide every essential service for the traveller and generally operate 24 hours a day on major highways. Tourist offices in visitor areas, even those far off the beaten track, often open daily or at least during the week and on weekend mornings; urban information centres are more likely to follow standard shopping hours.
Visitor attractions such as museums, galleries and staffed historic monuments often open daily, although those in rural communities may keep irregular hours.
