Arriving at the port
Rio Grande's port is relatively near downtown: the cruise terminal is approximately 2 kilometers (about 1.2 miles) from the city centre. This short distance allows passengers to reach downtown on foot, by taxi or using local transportation.
In the city's heart, the Cathedral of St. Peter is a beautiful neoclassical cathedral, noted for impressive architecture and historical significance.
The Oceanographic Museum (Museu Oceanográfico), part of the Federal University ofCathedral of St. Peter Rio Grande (FURG), has exhibits on marine biology, oceanography and local marine life.
Molhes da Barra (The Jetties) are long structures reaching into the ocean, suited to scenic walks, fishing or simply views across the Atlantic Ocean.
Praia do Cassino (Cassino Beach), one of the world's longest beaches, has miles of sandy shore for relaxing, swimming and beach sports.
