01

Arriving at the port

Meaning "Port Hercules", Porto Ercole is in Monte Argentario municipality, Province of Grosseto, Tuscany.

Porto Ercole is reached by tender, as this is a tender port.

Its marina is very picturesque, with pavement-side boutiques, cafés and restaurants.

02

Getting around

Siena erected the historic core’s enclosing walls during the Renaissance over earlier structures.

The Palace of the Rulers overlooks picturesque Piazzetta Santa Barbara, which in turn overlooks the harbour. Built in the sixteenth century, the building retains its past Renaissance-style façade and housed the Spanish rulers. At the opposite, sea-facing end of the square stands the fifteenth bastion of Santa Barbara.

03

Nearby places

The surrounding country is dominated by mighty Aldobrandesca fortress, a fortification built repeatedly from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance around existing structures.
