Getting around
Siena erected the historic core’s enclosing walls during the Renaissance over earlier structures.
The Palace of the Rulers overlooks picturesque Piazzetta Santa Barbara, which in turn overlooks the harbour. Built in the sixteenth century, the building retains its past Renaissance-style façade and housed the Spanish rulers. At the opposite, sea-facing end of the square stands the fifteenth bastion of Santa Barbara.
