Port Hedland

The Port Hedland Port is the largest tonnage bulk export port in the World and is predominately based around the Iron Ore Export industry for the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. The historical development of the Town is based around Iron Ore and its export to world markets.

There ars shuttles to town - which is small but nice. There will be volunteers out with maps, cold bottles of water, and more.

At first sight the town has little to offer, this is why many passengers stay on board.

Get off the boat, out of your comfort zone and see the 'orange and blue' town.... it's always hot, it's always dusty, it's always a terrific photo opportunity, it's always "raw". But it's well worth the visit!

An interesting tour of the processing plant will be offered by the ship.

Woolworths supermarket and a few other stores are present, a couple of coffee shops and not much else.

Near the information center the Seamen's Club has 30 minutes free WiFi and internet.

Shops and services are generally open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and until lunchtime on Saturday. In cities and larger towns, many shops stay open late on Thursday or Friday evening - usually until 9pm - and all day on Saturday. Shopping malls are often open on Sundays as well.

In remote country areas, roadhouses provide all the essential services for the traveler and, on the major highways, are generally open 24 hours a day. In tourist areas, even ones well off the beaten track, tourist offices are often open every day or at least through the week plus weekend mornings; urban information centers are more likely to conform to normal shopping hours.

Tourist attractions such as museums, galleries and attended historic monuments, are often open daily, though those in rural communities may have erratic opening hours.
