Making the most of Port Douglas

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

This is a tender port. If you do a private tour make sure you are in the queue for tender tickets half an hour before the advertised time to hand out tickets so you can get tickets for the first tender. When the tours are ready to go they have priority and this can cause quite a delay for passengers going independently.

It’s an ideal set-off point for trips to the low isles.

Map to take along.

On a sunny, calm day, Four Mile Beach will take your breath away; it is sand and palm trees for as far as you can see (head up to Flagstaff Hill Lookout for a great view).

02

Getting around

For the ships tour to the reef at Airlie Beach, the catamaran comes alongside and picks up direct from the ship.

Due to time restraints it is recommended to take Great Barrier Reef trips with a ship's excursion. For shorter trips have a look here. Keep in mind that seas can be rough at times and tendering might not be possible and the port might be skipped.

03

Food and shopping

Macrossan Street is the center of the beautiful village of Port Douglas. This vibrant and bustling tree-lined street offers world-class restaurants, bars, cafes, boutiques and galleries.
