Porquerolles is the largest and most westerly of the three Îles d'Hyères. It measures about 7 km (4.3 mi) by 3 km (1.9 mi), with five low hill ranges. Cliffs line the south coast; the north has the port and Notre Dame, La Courtade and Plage d'Argent beaches.

The island has only about 200 inhabitants.

02

Getting around

In 1988, Porquerolles was placed under French national Trust, or national Park, protection. Its sandy beaches, superb south-side cliff views down to sparkling sea and temperate climate draw visitors to walk or cycle in every season of the year.

Fort Sainte Agathe overlooks the village with a splendid panorama. From April to October, its exhibition covers the island's patrimonial richness and Hyères bay, while guided tours introduce its biological diversity and architectural heritage.
