Making the most of Maloy

Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.

01

Arriving at the port

The dock is about 900 Meter from the town centre.

Måløy is a small coastal town in Sogn og Fjordane county, on the island of Vågsøy at the beginning of Nordfjord.

Maloy’s coastal landscape combines rocky shoreline, sandy beaches and nearby islands. Stroll the waterfront promenade, "Strandgata," at a leisurely pace for fresh sea air, or take a boat trip to explore the neighbouring islands and fjords.

02

Getting around

On Selja island, a short distance from Maloy, Selje Monastery dates to the 11th century and is linked with Saint Sunniva, Western Norway’s patron saint. Walk peacefully around its ruins and discover the legends and stories connected with the monastery.

A short drive from Maloy brings you to Kannesteinen, an unusual rock formation shaped by ocean waves over centuries. Its smooth round hole makes a distinctive photographic subject; walk the rugged coast for dramatic scenery.

03

Money

Norway uses the Norwegian crown (Norske krone), shortened to kr; a 1/100th krone is an øre. 1.00 EUR is about 9 NOK, and Norway is among the world’s most expensive countries.
