Making the most of Mahajanga
Use these notes to shape a realistic day ashore, then confirm any time-sensitive information for the date of your call.
Arriving at the port
Because of limited water depth at the wharf, only small ships can call at the terminal. Deeper-draft ships anchor off the terminal and use tenders to bring you to the center of town.
Mahajanga is a city and a district on the north-west coast of Madagascar. The city is an important seaport and is located on the Betsiboka River which leads to Bombetoka Bay.
Mahajanga offers visitors a beautiful natural environment, a lively port district and picturesque sea promenade. There are colorful makets and mosques to see some elegant colonial buildings.
